  • Radamés Gnattali receives the title of Cidadão do Estado da Guanabara , conferred by the State Legislative Assembly.
  • O Sexteto do Rio [1] debut to Sonatina a Seis, para piano e quinteto de sopros, from Radames, Gnattali,in concert on 05/13, at the extinct IBAM auditorium, in the Humaitá neighborhood, in Rio de Janeiro.
  • In 08/06 a Orquestra Sinfônica Nacional, under the baton of Alceo Bocchino presents, in the 1st world audition, the version for large orchestra of Brasiliana nº 11, from the original for piano and 8 cellos, from 1966. The premiere takes place at Sala Cecília Meireles.
  • Radamés composes:
    • Fun for flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn and piano with string orchestra
    • Divertimento para seis instrumentos– for Sexteto Radamés Gnattali [2]. There is a piano part adapted for quintet formation. ( version of Trio para piano, contrabaixo e bateria, 1966).
    • Quarteto nº 2 para violino, viola, violoncelo e piano [3] – dedicated Quarteto da Guanabara
    • Sinfonia popular nº 4 para grande orquestra (completed in 1975)
    • Sonatina em ré maior para flauta e piano – dedicated to Celso Woltzenlogel and Heitor Alimonda (the third movement is a tribute to Pixinguinha)

  • Dies in Rio de Janeiro (RJ), the composer and percussionist João da Baiana (João Machado Guedes), cymbal and knife player, introducer of the tambourine in samba, considered by Radamés the best tambourine player of all time.
  • The composer Donga (Ernesto Joaquim Maria dos Santos), one of the founders of the group, dies in Rio de Janeiro (RJ).Os Oito Batutas, and one of the authors of the legendary and controversial samba Pelo Telefone.
  • Composer Darius Milhaud dies in Geneva (Switzerland).
  • Beginning of the military government of General Ernesto Geisel.
  • MDB (opposition party) victory over ARENA (situation party) in November parliamentary elections. It is the beginning of the “slow, gradual and safe” opening promoted by Geisel.
  • Brazil and China re-establish diplomatic relations.
