  • Radamés leaves Rádio Nacional and, through his friend Chiquinho do Acordeom, joins the debuting TV Excelsior, in Rio de Janeiro.

  • Premiere at the Thetro Municipal in Rio de Janeiro, on September 25, the
    Concerto No. 2 for Violin and Orchestra
    (1962) by Radamés Gnattali, performed by violinist Oscar Borgerth, with the Orquestra Sinfônica Nacional da Rádio Ministério da Educação, conducted by maestro Alceo Bocchino [1].
  • The label Festa, by Irineu Garcia, releases the Lp
    Claudio Santoro – Symphony No. 6 / Radamés Gnattali – Popular Symphony
    with the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra conducted by Cláudio Santoro.

 

  • Continental releases
    The Great Brazilian Waltz
    on a 12″ LP – with Radamés Gnattali and his orchestra. Actually, this is a re-release of the 10″ Lp Valsas da minha terra, from 1957, with the inclusion of 4 more tracks.

 

  • Radamés composes:

    • Brazilian Fantasy no. 6 for piano and orchestra
      (performed in January 1964)
    • Maneirando (choro) for piano

    • Quartet No. 3 for 2 violins, viola and cello –
      dedicated to Guido Pascoli
    • Sonata No. 2 for piano
    • Vaidosa nº 2 (waltz) for piano
  • A popular plebiscite reveals Brazilians’ preference for a return to presidentialism. João Goulart regains full powers of the Presidency and begins the Base Reforms.
  • On November 22, John Kennedy, president of the United States, is assassinated in Dallas (Texas – USA).
