  • On February 17, the flutist, saxophonist, composer, arranger and conductor Pixinguinha (Alfredo da Rocha Vianna Filho) died of a heart attack at the Nossa Senhora da Paz Church, in Ipanema, Rio de Janeiro. Radamés dedicated the waltz for solo piano to him Uma rosa para o Pixinguinha (1964) and honored him in the suite Retratos (1956) and in other works of popular and concert music.
