- A Brasiliana nº 3 (symphony), of 1948, is performed in Rio de Janeiro by the Orquestra Sinfônica Brasileira, conducted by Erich Kleiber.
- A Suite for small orchestra, of 1940, is performed, in Belo Horizonte (MG), by the Belo Horizonte Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Guido Santorsola.
- Radamés signs the musical direction of the film Morning StarThe film is narrated by Jonald (Oswaldo Marques de Oliveira), with songs by Dorival Caymmi interpreted by the composer himself.
- Rádio Nacional creates the Brazilian Music Department and launches, as its first project, the program Instantâneos Sonoros do Brasil (Instantaneous Sound of Brazil).

Radamés(Vero and his orchestra) is in charge of the arrangements and accompaniment. The album cover illustration is by Di Cavalcanti.

- On September 18, São Paulo’s TV Tupi, the first television station in Latin America, goes on the air.
- Getúlio Vargas is elected president of Brazil, for the PTB, with 49% of the valid votes.
- On June 2nd, Rio de Janeiro’s Mário Filho Stadium, better known as Maracanã, is inaugurated. The stadium was specially built for the IV World Soccer Championship to be held in Brazil. The Brazilian scratch qualifies for the final, but loses 2 x 1 to Uruguay, which becomes world champion.
