S\u00e3o Paulo, 1997)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In its April 14th issue, the Correio da Manh\u00e3 newspaper publishes the results of the 1936 &#8216;piano suite composition contest&#8217; held by the Brazilian Artists Association. The prize for best composition is awarded in key, tied, to Radam\u00e9s Gnattali, for the suite  <strong><em>Waltz, Modinha and Jongo <\/em>[1]<\/strong>  and Bras\u00edlio Itiber\u00ea, for the suite  <em>Invocation, Choral and Dance.  <\/em>The jury was composed by the composers Lorenzo Fernandes and Francisco Mignone, the music critic and professor Octavio Bevilacqua, the president of A.A.B. Andrade Muricy, and the pianist Noemi Coelho Bittencourt.<\/li>\n<li>First world audition of <strong><br \/>\n  <em>Concerto No. 2 for piano and orchestra<\/em><br \/>\n<\/strong><em> (1936), <\/em>by Radam\u00e9s Gnattali, at R\u00e1dio Nacional in Rio de Janeiro, with pianist Arnaldo Estrela as soloist, with the radio symphony orchestra conducted by the author.<\/li>\n<li> <em>Revista<\/em> Turismo organizes the program <em>Meia Hora de M\u00fasica Brasileira<\/em>, with conductor Simon Bountman&#8217;s orchestra, broadcasted worldwide by R\u00e1dio Nacional. With arrangements by Radam\u00e9s, the songs <em>Cidade Maravilhosa<\/em>, by Andr\u00e9 Filho, <em>Carinhoso<\/em>, by Pixinguinha, <em>No Tabuleiro da Baiana<\/em>, by Ary Barroso, and, for the first time, <em>Fantasia Brasileira<\/em> [n\u00ba 1] <em>for piano and orchestra<\/em>, by Radam\u00e9s himself, are presented. The latter had its score edited and distributed by <em>Revista Turismo<\/em> to all Brazilian embassies and delegations abroad.<\/li>\n<li>The record label Victor releases, by Radam\u00e9s, the choros <strong><em>Cabuloso<\/em><\/strong>and <strong><em>Recordando<\/em><\/strong> with the Trio Carioca, formed by Luiz Americano (clarinet), Radam\u00e9s Gnattali (piano) and Luciano Perrone (drums)<em>.<br \/>\n<\/em><strong> <\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Radam\u00e9s uses for the first time, at the request of the young singer Orlando Silva, a string orchestra in the arrangements of the songs <em>L\u00e1bios que beijei and <\/em> <em>Juramento falso, <\/em>both by J. Cascata and Leonel Azevedo. Despite the purists&#8217; criticism of the arrangements as Americanized, Orlando sells thousands of records.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Radam\u00e9s composes:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><strong><br \/>\n  <em>Brazilian Fantasy <\/em><br \/>\n<\/strong>[n\u00ba 1]<strong><br \/>\n  <em> for piano and orchestra <\/em><br \/>\n<\/strong> <\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Legend no. 2 for violin, cello and piano<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><br \/>\n  <em>Modinha for song and piano &#8211; <\/em><br \/>\n<\/strong>on a poem by Manoel Bandeira &#8211; dedicated to Christina Maristany.<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Valsa, modinha e jongo \u2013 su\u00edte para piano <\/strong><\/em>(Missing work, quoted in newspapers of the time) <strong>[2]<em> <\/em><\/strong> <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Mandolinist and composer Joel Nascimento was born in Rio de Janeiro (RJ), to whom Radam\u00e9s dedicates, among other works, the<strong><em>Concerto para bandolim e orquestra de cordas<\/em><\/strong>, em <em><em>1985.<\/em><\/em><\/li>\n<li>Composer Maurice Ravel (Maurice Joseph Ravel), whom Radam\u00e9s admired as one of the three greatest composers of the 20th century, along with Rachmaninoff and B\u00e9la Bart\u00f3k, dies in Paris.<\/li>\n<li>Composer George Gershwin dies in Beverly Hills (California, USA).<\/li>\n<li>The radioteatro, which until then presented short humorous dialogues, began to broadcast complete plays on R\u00e1dio Nacional.<\/li>\n<li>The <em>Estado Novo (New State<\/em>) begins. Get\u00falio Vargas closes Congress and assumes dictatorial powers.
